1. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

  • Rinse your hair and scalp and let it dry completely.
  • Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water.

  • Repeat once or twice a week.

2. Tea Tree Oil

  • Dilute 2 – 3 drops of tea tree oil in a tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • Massage on your scalp to unblock your hair follicles and give relief from itching..

  • Add 10 – 20 drops of tea tree oil to 1/2 cup of baby shampoo.

  • Leave for at least 30 minutes and wash off with perfume free shampoo.

  • Or you can add gently heated coconut oil to your shampoo before rinsing your hair.

5. Baking Soda

Baking soda exfoliates the scalp and prevents dandruff which is caused by overactive fungi.
Process:
  • Apply a few drops of olive oil on your scalp and rub for a few minutes.
  • Mix a tablespoon or two of baking soda in water.
  • Apply this paste directly onto your scalp and let it soak for 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with water and repeat regularly.

6. Lemon Juice

Lemon contains antiseptic properties and vitamin C which helps to treat an itchy and dry scalp.
Process 1:
  • Massage fresh lemon juice onto your scalp.
  • Leave for 5 minutes before rinsing with water.
  • Rinse again with one cup of water and a teaspoon of lemon juice.

Process:
  • Gently heat sesame seed oil.
  • Apply this warm oil onto your scalp and massage gently for 10 minutes before bed.
  • Wrap your head in a hot towel and leave for 10 minutes and then take it off.

8. Bananas

  • Mash two ripe bananas and one ripe avocado into a paste

Tips to Reduce the Itchy Scalp:

Here are some tips that can help soothe and calm your dry, itchy scalp.
  • Dry your hair thoroughly everyday because damp hair causes product buildup which leads to dryness and itching.
  • Brush or comb gently 2 – 3 times a day which helps to distribute the natural oils.
  • Do not use products containing alcohol.
  • Make sure you do not have head lice.
  • Try to reduce your stress levels by doing exercises like yoga, meditation, deep breathing, walking, swimming, etc.
  • Drink water as often as possible to hydrated yourself and your scalp.
  • Consume food that is rich in fatty acids, vitamin A, b and C and zinc.
  • Use hot oil massages to increase the blood flow and reduces dryness.
  • Take supplements of vitamin E to hydrate your skin and keep you hydrated.
  • Do not scratch your scalp as this can make the problem worse.
  • Try new shampoos, oils and conditioners, etc for 2 weeks to remove any build up which resulted from the constant use of older ones.
  • Avoid applying chemicals to your hair.
  • Regularly wash your bed sheets and pillows to avoid the problem of mites.
